Statement from The Azaylia Foundation following recent media coverage

Following on from the articles written by the Guardian on the 17th and 18th June, relating to the allegations against our Co-Founder Ashley Cain, the Azaylia Foundation has submitted a Serious Incident Report to the Charity Commission, and we are taking the situation extremely seriously. We were unaware of these allegations until these articles were published.

The Azaylia foundation does not condone or accept any harmful, misogynistic or abusive language towards women, this is never acceptable and does not reflect any of the views of the Foundation. The Trustee Board and the CEO have started an internal investigation in line with our governing documents and the Charity Commission regulations.

Ashley has decided to temporarily step down from the Board of Trustees, while the foundation conducts their internal reviews.

These allegations predate the formation of the Azaylia Foundation in 2021, and we want to emphasise that the foundation itself is not linked to any of the comments or accusations made in these articles. While Ashley has been committed to the Foundation and Azaylia’s memory by taking on some of the hardest challenges to raise funds, none of this takes away from the seriousness of what has been reported in the media.

We want to reassure our families, researchers, partners, donors and the public that we are fully reviewing the situation and taking the appropriate actions.
Our number one priority always is to protect families, maintain trust, and ensure that those we support feel safe, respected, and cared for.

The Azaylia Foundation continues to operate while we go through these processes. We are firmly committed to supporting our families and researchers through the fight against children’s cancer as always. Our services and support will all still operate during this time.

If you are part of our community and would like to contact us, please email us at info@azaylia.org. For press enquires, please email media@azaylia.org
